Director Kate Jopson’s freewheeling adaptation certainly has the courage of its convictions, making inventive use of the entire venue and its park environs.

SecondSkinShow
...a startlingly beautifully done play that’s deceptively simple, subtle and dreamlike.
— Bill Raden, LA Weekly

When Quinn learns her estranged mother is dying, she returns to a home she fled long ago.  As she cares for her mother, Quinn wrestles with disturbing childhood memories, her mother’s secrets, and strange occurrences that echo her mother’s Irish bedtime stories. Told in three interconnected monologues, Kristin Idaszak’s SECOND SKIN investigates the fraught relationship between mothers and daughters, and how one mistake can reverberate across generations.

Performed on beaches along California's coast, Second Skin hearkens to Homeric epics and ghost stories told around a summer campfire.

Words in the World workshop productions provide an opportunity for playwrights to experience their work in a site-responsive, design-driven process. These fully-realized performances promote experiential development of a piece, whether that means staging the work in the actual scripted environment or exploring an “impossible” design element.
